the question of the day

what does a belt, a breast plate, a crown, a cover, a finger and 5 books have in common? that is what my girls had to answer today!!

   
The girls had to answer that question today in homeschool but the project is not done so you will have to wait til tomorrow to find out the answer..... 

I have to say that Homeschool was so much fun today, the kids were very muchengaged in what we were learning. Today we went back to last weeks torah portion to talk about creation. we read all 6 chapters again and we midrashed about them. I talked to them about creation and we talked about Evolution for the first time. In the past I have not discussed any alternatives to a belief in creation. Today I did feel led to talk about it since it will be something that the girls will have to eventuallyknow about even if it just to disprove it. so after I was done explaining this IDEA of Evolution my kids just looked at me shaking there head and said that doesn't make any seance why would someone think that is real?  Kat of course in her most colorful and unique way of thinking said "Mom, if that was true that mama ape must have been pretty shocked when her baby came out with no fur!!"  I am not sure if you aresupposed to laugh at your kids question but there was no getting around that one. 

In other news

we are so busy with Joe's hunting season and my upcoming parents visit that I am so in need of  a few GOOD working days. where we get alot done done and it doesn't even make sense of how we did it. 

I have set some goals for the day and assigned Chores for each day for each child to do after there school work. I am hoping this will help plus I am cooking up  extra meals to freeze to make life a bit easier on hectic days. I am going to be starting a 1 day a week COOKING day. where I cook the meals for the week ONCE a week.  

just because I love posting my schedule and lists  here is what we will be up to tomorrow

8 am start school with morning prayers and memory verse

9am Torah portion-------> 

11am finish project 

noon  lunch

12:30 math

1:30  science lapbook 

3pm chores: laundry everyone

Kat : dishes and dusting

Jackie: bathroom

Abby: Hall and making beds

Tyna: sweep and mop living room and dinning room

 

Dinner at 4:30 pm followed by playtime when done with chores and any homework

 

the kitten has take over homeschool....

we will be doing some Notebooking for the next few weeks on the Kitten!!! I figured he is cute and why not use what we have!!  the girls will still be doing the regular homeschool but on Wednesday ( or this week Monday and wednesday) we will be working on our kitten Notebook. I don't want to disrupt  the flow of the Weaver so on Lapbook days we will Not be doing weaver and we will be doing different activities so Weaver not gone just not coming out on Notebook and lapbook days. also added back in to our lives is the Piano..... the girls were having no inclination to practice so I put it away but they asked for it back so it is back!!! they will be allowed 15 min practice 5 min play time on it if they get all there studies and chores done.  the Memory Verse this week is STILL ( 2nd week) Jermiah 29:11-13.  this means that this is how the home school schedule looks for tomorrow

       Bible time: Prayer study-  How do you start your prayers? 

The purpose of the prayer study is to get the girls on a better understanding about how to pray and what to pray for.  Also I would like them to pick up there own  Nightly prayer list and morning prayer list.  This will help with there walk and there making there own relationship with THE FATHER.

so tomorrow will be a busy day for us but Today was a busy day so Nothing new!!

my accomplishment of the day today was getting Elijah Groomed ALOT of work and it takes about 3 hours do do all together.

Update on Sh'ma

He is doing well still, He has started to play which is pretty cute also he has decided that my hand is a passifire and when I move my hand away so he can't suck on me he sits and meows as loud as he can. attitude already GREAT!!!  

well that is it. I will Try to get some pics of the girls tomorrow since it seams all I have been posting is Sh'ma. til tomorrow

Shavu'ot week before.........

this is the girls favorite Shavu'ot song!!! Some one sent me this link this week just in time. this is a cute video and the girls have been playing all week. I love when the girls go crazy for bible songs.

For home school this week we have been doing fun things. well other than monday that was a regular day. Tuesday we did headbands

They got these done just in time for us to fellowship and celebrate with our friends at Emet Et Torah we broke bread with them and listen to a great teaching by Rael. 

The girls had a blast playing with there friends and Kenzie got a helper for the night this is Kenzie asking Tyna to blow on her food cause it is TOO hot!!

Like I said it was a great time!!!! I am so happy we got to fellowship with them, we have been meaning to for awhile but never having time to get out there, So I was so happy to make it and so where the girls. 

Back to homeschooling for a minute. we also did this week for home school commandments string and commandments train.

this is the older girls doing the commandment strings, They had to write one commandment per tablet and draw a picture to reminded them what the commandement ment.

first lesson

the first lesson is tomorrow and I think we should  start with the most important on the list..... 

Spiritual discipline

for me it all starts with this, if we have no relation with YHVH then what is the point of anything else. my devotion is to HIM and I will teach that to my children. so this will be a week long and who know it may go longer I give that decision to YHVH but I do know that the first place we start is with Prayer. so we will be implementing alone prayer time to are homeschooling schedule 15 before are day begins. then we will do our blessing for school and then the devotional then we will get going this will mean that prayer will need to be started by 8:30am for us to start with our day and keep to our schedule and be done with most of our work by 1pm. 

I will also be teaching about prayer tomorrow. starting with the LORD's prayer as a guideline. and talking about how many times that YHVH tells us to pray. 

 

while we are on the subject of homeschool there are some fun thing (exciting really) that happened here and that are going to happen. this week we had a friend come over and teach us about Elmer.....

 if you don't know the story of Elmer it is of an elephant that is so many different colors that makes him special. the girls especially abby loved this story and the fact that Mrs. K brought over a elmer that they could play with that they want mommy and daddy to find one for them to play with all the time. 

Next we have our new study with some friends but we will have to give more info on that when we get closer. but lets just say I am excited which I know is not saying much since I am always excited when we are doing a new study with the girls. 

Homeschool

Passion

I have discovered, well at least for me any way. that doing homeschool needs to be a passion something that is renewed daily if it is not a renewed passion for me then school is dry and hard. also need to be individualized to each child. I can't imagine try to work with 20 kids ever day and hoping they get it. I have enough trouble with 4. I found my self looking at this homeschooling thing as a job. and when you look at something as a job then you find yourself treating it as such. it is not a job for me, I am teach 4 amazing children how to read and to do math, hoping that I make history come alive for them, but more importantly teaching them how to be good adults, following God's word.

problems.

we are having some issues. first of all schedule. I am consistently trying to get them to a schedule that works. my late night kids and my morning kids don't learn the same during parts of the day. now i don't want to cadre to them but I also what to be able to get them at the time that will get them to retain the most information. I know for  me personally my morning classes were the worse for me. I don't remember what we learned or much about the class except I always disliked that class. for the most part this is due to the fact I am far from a morning person. Now mind you I have 2 morning people. and they are sunshine in the morning which honestly I find most annoying. they retain more in the morning when I get stuff started before lunch as my late kids are more apt to do better later.  also another problem is MATH. I focused so long on reading that we now have an added issue of math has become problematic. they are doing fine on there work books but can't seem to put what they learn into practice. from what I understand this is common.

Solutions?

well I am currently working on  a new schedule for the school days. here is what I have so far. we are going to try this out. the idea is if I have set times they know what to do and hopefully our time will be better spent instead of the alarm going off for school and no one is ready ( including Me) this way we all know to be ready for school. we will see what happens.

Monday –Thursday:

8-10 am get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, pick up, get ready for school.

10 am School (weaver or science, SS, Health, bible, LA, CW)

12pm  Lunch.

12:30- 3:00 school( reading, study, ,Math and Phonics)

3pm – 5:30pm Chores

If chores  are done before 5:30 you can: color, practice piano, play in your  room, 

5:40 daddy comes home

7pm dinner

9:30 prayer time and then bed.

Friday:

8-10 am get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, pick up,

10am – sundown   Family day!!!!!

On the Math we are going to be trying a new program to see if this helps with the using math. it is recommended highly by other Weaver moms. I may only use it next year then move to Saxon which is a little more advanced. But first I need to get there math use more practical. the math u see is a program that is visual which my girls do better with anyway and it will allow them to more up quicker.

School next year:

well next year we will be continuing on the HEAVY reading schedule they are already on but we will be adding the math. I have to say I am still loving Weaver and will be continuing with it. I figure including special projects like the little house on the prairie which we are still working on, sewing projects and Feast lapbooks. school will cost 400.00 this includes supplies so that is what I am budgeting 500.00 for the year and if I am under the 400  when we start I am just going to hold on to the money for just in cases!!! so many times I have to get some more supplies mid year. so it is better to be safe then sorry.

So what do you think? I would love some input.
